The WTBC Prize Fund has been increased from the original
$253,000 to $262,000.
On the recommendation of the WPA, the original prize breakdown
has been revised to provide more money to players placing from
9th to 32nd in the competition so they can recover their travel and
lodging expenses in Manila. At the same time, the WPA is
concerned about the “savers” practice of players in tournaments,
which usually occurs when there is a wide gap between first and
second-place prize money. The practice compromises the
integrity and competitiveness of sports events, and the governing
body frowns on it.
The new prize breakdown is as follows:
Winner $60,000
Runner-up 30,000
3-4 15,000 x 2
5-8 7,500 x 4
9-16 4,000 x 8
17-32 2,500 x 16
33-64 1,000 x 32
Total $262,000
Sanction Fees: WPA – 5%
BSCP – 2.5%
